Product Description

A Schreiber chest of drawers from the “Compact” range, 1968. This chest with it’s golden tola finish has five drawers (two shallow and three deep) that penniless Polish refugee turned British furniture kingpin, Chaim Schreiber, described as “the Schreiber invention”. The drawers contain no screws, nails or glue and each plywood drawer is molded so that it forms a seamless unit with rounded corners.

Schreiber, who studied to be an architect in the 1930s, saw himself as a wood engineer rather than a craftsman and built his company up to be the British furniture leader in the 1960’s and 1970s. This chest of drawers is a good example of the precision and perfectionism that contributed to the Schreiber success story.

This chest of drawers is well made with perfect proportions and the most elegant brass knobs. It stands on four stout, tapered legs. It has the maker’s mark in gold emboss inside each drawer.
