Monwabisi Park + Early Child Development
Between 2009 and 2013 Astrid was involved in research around the Monwabisi Park informal settlement whilst working for the Urban Design Department and later, working as Head Implementation with the VPUU Programme.
Astrid was awarded a scholarship and attended the IHS International Institute of Urban Management with Lincoln Institute of Land Policy for a short Diploma (2011, with distinction) in Land Management and Informal Settlement Regularization at Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
Baseline Mapping, Logframe Development, Analysis and Reports
A 'Quality of Life Logframe' development was undertaken for both the VPUU and the Informal Settlement Transformation Programme (ISTP).
The baseline study undertaken for Monwabisi Part Informal Settlement in Khayelitsha was informed by primary and secondary quantitative and qualitative data collection by sample survey through questionnaire, workshops and comparison groups. This information provided the, then current situation, and identified the starting points for an Early Child Development Programme in parallel with infrastructure based improvements. Projects are funded by the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) and UK based Comic Relief.
