Sandbag Eco House

Roles: Principal Architect, Sandbag Eco House (Photographer’s Studio and Residence), Scarborough

This green family home is an addition to the original shed. We constructed it in timber frame with sandbag infill. The design provided for an off-grid energy configuration via photovoltaic cells with battery banks, LED lighting, solar water heating and grey-water usage.

The sandbags were plastered in clay-lime cob-plaster internally. The sand was sustainably harvested from the building site. We made extensive use of recycled and sustainably sourced local timber in the structure and cladding.
